About Me

A Lifelong Passion for Technology, Innovation & Problem-Solving

From early computer systems in Europe to modern software, artificial intelligence, smart energy, and automation in the United States.

I’ve always been fascinated by technology — not simply by what it can do, but by understanding how it works, discovering its limitations, and finding ways to make it better.

My journey started long before artificial intelligence, smart homes, and cloud-connected devices became part of everyday life.

Over the years, I’ve worked with computer hardware, software, networking, telecommunications, electrical systems, automation, and renewable energy technologies.

I don’t consider myself someone who needs to reinvent everything from scratch. My strength has always been recognizing possibilities, connecting different technologies, improving existing solutions, and finding practical ways to make complicated systems work together.

And that curiosity has followed me throughout my life.

Czech Republic · until 2010

Where It All Started — Czech Republic

My professional technology journey began in the Czech Republic, where I established my own computer business and worked with individuals, companies, hotels, schools, and other organizations.

During those early years, I gained hands-on experience in computer sales, installation, troubleshooting, networking, technical support, and system maintenance.

I collaborated with Confort, a computer retailer, working as an independent technician and providing IT support for numerous hotels in Karlovy Vary, one of the Czech Republic’s most recognized spa destinations.

My work included everything from computer installations and maintenance to resolving network problems and supporting business operations.

I also participated in computer installations at a healthcare school and worked on graphic design projects for Ivele Praha.

Other projects included computer and network administration, security camera installations, and technical infrastructure for local businesses, including Barracuda Bar in Karlovy Vary.

I also worked with Český Telecom and O2, gaining additional experience in telecommunications and internet connectivity.

Alongside these commercial projects, I sold and installed computers for residential customers, configured internet connections, and helped people solve everyday technology problems.

I supported internet cafés throughout the Karlovy Vary region and occasionally handled technical work for casino operations.

These experiences gave me something I still consider extremely valuable today:

The ability to understand technology from multiple perspectives — hardware, software, networking, installation, maintenance, and the people who depend on it.

2008

2008 — Experimenting With Voice-Controlled Home Automation

One of my most memorable early projects happened in 2008.

At a time when voice-controlled smart homes were still unfamiliar to most people, I started experimenting with ways to control computers and household functions using spoken commands.

I didn’t develop the entire software from scratch.

Instead, I worked with existing software technologies, modifying, configuring, and combining them to create a practical voice-controlled system.

The system could recognize previously recorded and configured commands, allowing users to:

  • Turn lights on and off.
  • Play music.
  • Launch movies and other media.
  • Open specific computer applications.
  • Execute customized commands.
  • Control selected functions around the apartment.

It required considerable configuration and experimentation, but once properly set up, it worked remarkably well.

The Most Interesting Part? It Worked Completely Offline.

  • No internet connection.
  • No cloud services.
  • No external servers.

Everything operated locally through the computer.

I successfully implemented the system in two apartments in the Czech Republic — my own and my cousin’s.

For historical perspective, this was three years before Apple introduced Siri in 2011 and six years before Amazon introduced Alexa in 2014.

Interestingly, 2008 was also the year the first Iron Man movie introduced audiences to J.A.R.V.I.S., Tony Stark’s fictional intelligent assistant.

Of course, my system wasn’t comparable to today’s artificial intelligence or fictional technology.

It was a customized voice-command automation system built using the tools available at the time.

But it demonstrated something that continues to interest me today:

Sometimes, existing technology is capable of much more than people realize.

Years later, when I mentioned the project in passing at an Apple Store, even the Apple staff were enthusiastic about what had been possible back in 2008.

Windows · macOS · Linux

Exploring Windows, macOS & Linux

Throughout my technology journey, I’ve never limited myself to a single operating system or platform.

I’ve spent years experimenting with Windows, Apple’s operating systems, Linux, and different software environments.

I particularly enjoyed troubleshooting complicated software issues, identifying causes of system instability, and finding solutions when conventional approaches weren’t working.

On several occasions, I successfully resolved Windows-related problems, including issues that caused system crashes.

Those experiences also led to an opportunity to work for Microsoft and access to developer resources.

One experience I still remember involved a Microsoft support technician remotely connecting to my computer.

The technician was surprised to discover that I was working with Windows, macOS, and Linux on the same machine.

For me, experimenting with different operating systems was simply another way to learn.

I wanted to understand their strengths, limitations, and how different technologies could work together.

That approach eventually became a defining part of how I solve technical problems.

Electrical & Energy

Beyond Computers — Electrical Systems & Energy Technology

My technical interests have never been limited to computers.

I also have a background in electrical work, having completed my electrical qualification in the Czech Republic in 2005.

Over time, my interest in electrical engineering naturally expanded into renewable energy, battery storage, energy management, and smart electrical systems.

I became particularly interested in how software and electrical infrastructure could work together to improve efficiency, reliability, monitoring, and control.

Today, I have hands-on experience working on personal solar energy and battery storage projects involving:

  • Solar photovoltaic systems.
  • Tesla Powerwall battery storage.
  • Solar inverters and energy conversion.
  • Electrical distribution and protection.
  • EV charging technology.
  • Energy monitoring and automation.
  • Backup power solutions.
  • Remote system management.

Some of my personal projects involve multiple battery storage units, solar arrays, EV charging equipment, and custom monitoring solutions.

What interests me most isn’t simply installing equipment.

It’s understanding how every component interacts — and how the entire system can be monitored, optimized, and improved.

Electrical hardware and intelligent software are becoming increasingly connected, and I believe that combination offers enormous opportunities.

Software & Web

Software Development, Web Technologies & Automation

Over the years, I gradually expanded my work into website development, software customization, scripting, automation, and digital systems.

I enjoy building websites and creating practical solutions that help people access information, monitor equipment, or manage technology more efficiently.

My experience includes:

  • Website design and development.
  • Software configuration and customization.
  • Scripting and workflow automation.
  • Remote access and computer administration.
  • Network configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Monitoring dashboards and web interfaces.
  • Integrating different software platforms.
  • Exploring AI-assisted development tools.

One of the things I enjoy most is taking separate systems that weren’t necessarily designed to work together and finding ways to connect them.

Sometimes that involves custom software.

Sometimes it involves modifying existing tools.

And sometimes the best solution is simply a smarter configuration.

I believe the best technology isn’t always the most complicated — it’s the technology that solves a real problem reliably.

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence — A New Chapter

Artificial intelligence has opened another exciting chapter in my technology journey.

Today, I’m exploring how AI can be integrated into software development, automation, monitoring, and everyday technical workflows.

I’m particularly interested in AI systems that can help manage tasks, analyze information, assist with programming, and communicate with other software platforms.

For me, AI isn’t simply about generating text or answering questions.

It’s about creating systems that can become genuinely useful tools.

The same curiosity that led me to experiment with voice-controlled computers in 2008 continues to drive my interest in intelligent automation today.

The technology has changed dramatically.

The motivation behind my projects hasn’t.

Business

Building Businesses & Learning Along the Way

My professional experience also extends beyond technology.

As the owner of Destin Stone LLC, I developed and managed my own business website, online presence, marketing materials, and digital tools.

Running a business taught me valuable lessons about customer service, project management, communication, and the importance of presenting technical work in a way people can understand.

Looking back, one of my biggest challenges during my early technology projects wasn’t necessarily the technology itself.

It was marketing.

I was much better at experimenting, building, troubleshooting, and improving systems than promoting my ideas.

I didn’t always recognize the commercial potential of the things I was creating.

Over time, I learned that developing a useful solution is only part of the process.

People also need to understand what it does, why it matters, and how it can benefit them.

That experience continues to influence the way I approach projects today.

Philosophy

My Philosophy

I’ve never believed that innovation always means inventing something entirely new.

Sometimes innovation means looking at existing technology from a different perspective.

Understanding what already exists.

Recognizing what could be improved.

And finding a way to make different systems work better together.

I don’t claim to know everything, and I certainly don’t consider myself an expert in every technology I explore.

But I’ve always been willing to learn, experiment, troubleshoot, and keep working until I understand how something works.

Nearly two decades after my early voice-controlled home automation experiments, I’m still doing what I’ve always enjoyed — learning, building, improving, and exploring what’s possible.

And with the rapid development of artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and intelligent automation, I believe the most exciting opportunities are still ahead.

Different Technologies. Same Curiosity.
